DAVAO ORIENTAL – A series of groundbreaking and turn-over ceremonies for various infrastructure projects have been recently held in the municipality of Manay.
Governor Nelson Dayanghirang, who led the ceremonies, said that these development projects are touted to improve the economic condition and the lives of the people in his hometown of Manay.
Among the projects that the he broke ground on Thursday, August 26, is the P85 million Manay Municipal Sports Gymnasium. This big ticket project with a capacity to hold around 3000-4000 people comprises a stage for multi-purpose events, office for administration, a VIP room, a control room, two locker rooms for two teams with toilet and shower, clinic, storage room, lobby with 4 concessioner spaces and additional spaces for two offices.
With this facility, the municipality can hold and host big events and can also serve as a new income generating enterprise for the town.
Aside from the gymnasium, the provincial government also poured down investments for the health sector through the Upgrading and Construction of new facilities at the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital – Manay.
With an allocated budget of P14 million, the project includes retrofitting the building from one storey to two storey, upgrading of existing ground floor specifically the Emergency Room, Outpatient Department Treatment (OPD), Ancillary Services such as Laboratory, X-ray and Pharmacy. Further, the construction of 2nd floor will include the Administrative Functions, Office of the Chief of Hospital and Office of the Chief of Nurse.
NEW TURNED OVER FACILITIES
After its groundbreaking more than a year ago, the provincial government formally turned over the newly completed Municipal Sanitary Landfill (Category I) at Sitio Bagsak, Barangay Central.
The first provincial government-funded Sanitary Landfill, the P30 million project is a joint project of the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental and Municipal Government of Manay which is part of the provincial government’s thrust to protect the environment and safeguard public health.
The sanitary landfill consists of an Administrative Building, Materials Recovery Facility/Shredding Area, Equipment Shed/Washing Area, guard house, waste retaining cell facility, leachate treatment facility (holding pond, anaerobic pond, facultative pond and maturation pond), flush box, access road, and a perimeter fence.
Governor Dayanghirang said that this is only the first as the province is set to implement 9 more similar projects in the different municipalities of Davao Oriental to promote environment sanitation and protection amidst the growing population and urbanization.
Meanwhile, another newly completed project is the newly completed 6,186.26 meters Road Upgrading (gravel to concrete) of NHJ-San Isidro-Mabini-Logdeck-Caningag Road (Phase I) in Barangay San Isidro. Amounting to P89 million through the Department of Interior and Local Government under the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (DILG-CMGP) for Road Repair, Rehabilitation and Improvement, the project now benefits hundreds of families around the area who are mostly make a living through farming.
“This is definitely a dream-come-true for all of us who live around here. This will make transportation of our goods much easier,” said a local farmer.
Governor Dayanghirang expressed his joy for the project’s completion as it will give residents easy access and uplift their livelihood. He further expressed his gratitude for the people’s support for the for the series of developments that is happening not only for his hometown Manay but also for the whole province.
“We will continue to develop further programs to enhance the services delivered to the people in Manay,” Governor Dayanghirang said.
