Amidst the looming global economic crisis resulting from the pandemic, Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon is encouraging partners in the Local Government Units to prepare for the challenging times while taking advantage of the investment opportunities coming in that bid to offset the economic crunch.

On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon sat with City of Mati Mayor Michelle N. Rabat and the members of the City Council in a courtesy call at the Provincial Capitol.

During the short visit, Governor Malanyaon urged the city officials to take the necessary austerity measures to cut government costs while maximizing income-generating initiatives, given the massive reduction in its annual share from the national internal revenue.

She said that while ‘Times are hard, the prospects are still bright with all the opportunities coming in.”

Remaining optimistic, the Governor asked the City officials to join the province’s direction, which is now focused on programs complementing agriculture and tourism, including roads, power, and water — the necessities required by investors, tourists, and most importantly, the Davao Oriental constituents.

Governor Malanyaon assured the officials the province’s economy will propel once the province’s tourism industry takes off ‘ for as long as everyone pitches in and participates.”

Signifying her support, Mayor Michelle Rabat said that the City will waive its provincial aid to give back to the province and allow it to pour funds into its priority programs as the City can still manage to support its programs.

Mayor Michelle Rabat also shared with the Governor the City’s initiatives, particularly in agriculture, such as fertilizer development, that proved to help farmers in addressing food security in the City. She is also optimistic about the soon-to-operate Mati City Fish Port that is bent on driving the City’s economy.

Governor Malanyaon thanked the city officials’ generous gesture while vowing that, for her part, she would do everything to beef up the province’s tourism industry.

Also discussed during the courtesy visit are the issues concerning the City’s water system, accommodation, and transportation services.

The Governor suggested strict regulations, especially on accommodation and transportation, to standardize these services to best cater to tourists and ensure sustainable tourism in the growing City of Mati.

Governor Malanyaon thanked the city officials’ support as she underscored the value of coordination between the LGUs and the province to ensure true progress and development. ʙʏ ᴋᴀʀᴇɴ ʟᴏᴜ ᴅᴇʟᴏꜱᴏ | ᴘʜᴏᴛᴏꜱ ʙʏ ᴍᴀʀᴋ ᴀʟᴠɪᴛᴇ
