Food security is among the top concerns Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon has pointed out to become one of this year’s major programs.

During her meeting yesterday, January 24, with all the municipal mayors of the province’s ten towns, Governor Malanyaon stressed the need to ensure food security through agriculture programs.

Amidst the bleak global economic forecast, Governor Malanyaon urged the mayors to join her efforts to boost food and agriculture. “It is unacceptable if someone dies because of hunger,” said the Governor, citing the province’s vast potential in agriculture.

Governor Malanyaon suggested vegetable production as a possible lucrative venture. She lamented why the residents have to buy vegetables from other towns outside Davao Oriental when the province is supposed to be endowed with fertile lands suitable for various crops.

She appealed to the mayors to encourage their constituents to grow their own food, even in small backyard gardens, for household consumption and additional income.

For the provincial government’s part, Governor Malanyaon committed that the province is institutionalizing the Oplan Karsada program to encourage farmers to plant crops. “We have to fix the roads, so our farmers are also encouraged to plant,” she said, urging the mayors to support the program by lending their available equipment to expedite road rehabilitation.

The Governor said her administration is reviving the Pagkain at Kita program to support the agriculture sector further.

The mayors committed their support for the Governor’s clear development direction as this will primarily benefit their constituents.

Aside from food security, Governor Malanyaon also raised her concerns about other issues, including the alarming resurgence of illegal drugs.

She also solicited their support in the province’s blood program to secure enough blood supply for those who need them.

Moreover, she reiterated her programs for tourism which she aims to launch this year. She urged the mayors to do their part in boosting tourism and investments by institutionalizing ease of doing business to attract investors.

“Try to be welcoming to our investors,” she said, urging them to take advantage of the growing tourism opportunities. ʙʏ ᴋʟᴅᴇʟᴏꜱᴏ | ᴘʜᴏᴛᴏꜱ ʙʏ ᴍᴀʀᴋ ᴏʟɪᴠᴇʀ ᴀʟᴠɪᴛᴇ
