In support to the revenue generation of the provincial government of Davao Oriental, Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon has awarded the respective municipalities of Davao Oriental with a certificate of turnover of the motorcycle unit in order to intensify every Local Government Unit’s tax collection.

The certificate was awarded on August 19, 2022 at La-nes Kita-anan, City of Mati during the Provincial-City/Municipal Interfacing and Executive-Legislative Agenda (Formulation) in support to the Provincial Development Commitment Agenda 2022-2025, which was attended by the different local chief executives, representatives from the different agencies/departments/offices as well as all the other stakeholders for the purpose of convergence for the administration’s programs and plans of action including revenue generation.

The municipal mayors who personally received the certificates, expressed their thanks as the units could bring a boost of morale and ultimately give ease to their respective tax collectors in their efforts to collect more. As a way to express their gratitude, the mayors pledged to collect taxes strictly as well as support the Governor’s plans of development as these are for their LGUs’ progress as well.

Governor Malanyaon led the interfacing’s crafting and brainstorming of plans as she stressed that working together can achieve more accomplishments. Thus, the Governor took the chance to share that revenue generation is a lifeblood of the Local Government Units (LGUs) as she encouraged everyone to be with her in rigidly collecting taxes to support and harmonize the thrust of realizing the development programs.

“Making plans is one thing but realizing it is another thing, in order for it to be reached – we need revenue generation and strategically think of how to increase income especially that our IRA will remarkably reduce by the next year,” Governor Malanyaon said.

Aside from pushing the LGUs treasurers’ office to collect, collect and collect. Governor Malanyaon also calls for the Local Chief Executives (LCEs) to be the prime movers in their respective LGUs to collect taxes rigidly and be in a state of judicious spending as a way to respond with the reduction of IRA as well as in the case of debts servicing.

“We do not need to spend here and there nor express unnecessary expenditures which are not really needed and which do not really benefit our people. From here on, we should only focus on the most important aspects including the priorities which could lead to defeating poverty and achieving goals of development for the Davao Oriental constituents,” the Governor added.

Engr. Maria Victoria Rodriguez, the Provincial Treasurer, who presented the status of the province in terms of revenue generation including real property taxes and extraction fees, expressed the significance of the LGU to continuously find ways to optimize revenue generation programs and employ strategic measures to elevate and improve revenue collection performance as a means of sustaining and supporting local economic growth.

“We take significant strides all to realize our goals and promote good governance,” Engr. Rodriguez said.

In addition, among the initiative of Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) is to pursue E-Governance in response to the widespread use of online application tools and ICT as this promotes transparency in a convenient way to streamline government transactions and improve efficiency in the delivery of services. In line with this, the province acknowledged the City of Mati LGU for taking the lead in launching their electronic payment and collection system.

As another revenue generation initiative, Governor Malanyaon challenged everyone in terms of managing the extraction fees, environment conservation and protection fees as well as strictly enforce local laws in the collection of shared revenues, particularly the extraction fees on sand, gravel and other quarry materials.
