TAGUM CITY— Davao Oriental Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang, who at the same time is the 1104th Ready Reserve Battalion Commander, , has received the highest honor as an Army Reservist from the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The Governor, who holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, received the Gawad sa Kaunlaran award for his achievements in the Ready Reserve Battalion that contributed to the peace and development of the province.

Lt. Col. Dayanghirang, who was recognized for his “remarkable achievements” that earned him the “distinct honor and credit not only for himself and EastMinCom but also for the Armed Forces of the Philippines”, has contributed greatly in the implementation of the AFP’s Community Support Program (CSP) through his flagship program called the Nagkakaisang Lingkod-Bayan ng Davao Oriental Barangay Outreach Caravan (NLD-BOC).

The NLD-BOC has prompted rebels here to surrender to the folds of the law as it has become an avenue for the government agencies to address the pressing needs of the marginalized communities, especially in the geographically depressed areas.

Meanwhile, since Dayanghirang assumed post in the Battalion last year, he has initiated a livelihood program and other form of assistance which inspired the reservists here to participate in the peace effort of the provincial government. He created the five-hectare Army Reservist Agri-Venture Farm in Barangay Bobon, City of Mati, and sponsored the reservists’ promotion, trainings, shirt for emergency responders, and gave rice assistance.

Further, Dayanghirang provided additional land area for the Community Defense Center, extended assistance for the improvement of its administrative building, and donated a Bonggo vehicle last December.

Provincial Chief-of-Staff Ednar Dayanghirang, who represented Lt. Col. Dayanghirang, received the medal for him during the awarding ceremony on August 5 in the City Hall of Tagum.
