The provincial government, under the visionary leadership of Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy, Jr., is all set to launch the province’s Bayanihan program. This was announced during the Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) fourth quarter meeting on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Davao Oriental State University.

This anti-poverty program aims not only to empower and uplift rural communities by providing them access to basic services that they need to thrive but also a way to sustain the province’s insurgency-free state.

While Davao Oriental has a rich history of experience in terms of collaboration in peace efforts, the Bayanihan program highlights the spirit of cooperation among all development partners. Aligned with the government’s Transformation Roadmap and 5-year roadmap, this program aims to provide sustainable and long-term interventions that will uplift and empower communities. The concept involves all partners working together towards a common goal to create positive change that will benefit everyone.

The program involves a comprehensive approach to community development, as it involves various government agencies, private institutions, and community members in targeting social, economic, and environmental development. It involves several flagship programs: Bayanihan sa Panginabuhian (livelihood, agriculture, tourism, etc.); Bayanihan sa Kalinaw(peace-building efforts); Bayanihan sa Kauswagan (social empowerment and economic development), Bayanihan saKinaiyahan(environmental regenerative efforts), Bayanihan sa Kaalam (education and information drive).

The Bayanihan Program is set to be piloted in Sitio Tubaon in the Municipality of Tarragona, Davao Oriental this December 2023.

The program has garnered enthusiasm from Governor Uy, as it is a clear indication of the government’s unshakable dedication to serving the people and creating a positive impact in their lives. PIO | Photos by JB Rain
