Regional Development Council XI Chairperson Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon joined fellow regional leaders in the historic launching of the ambitious Davao Regional Development Plan (DRDP) 2023-2028, aimed at promoting economic growth and ensuring equitable development of the Davao Region.

The landmark event held on Tuesday, May 23, at Mapua MCM Auditorium in Davao City, marked the official rollout of the development blueprint for the Davao Region, starting in 2023 to 2028.

Based on the overall strategy framework, the DRDP 2023-2028 aims to reinvigorate job creation and hasten poverty reduction by steering the Region’s economy back to its high-growth trajectory and maintaining its national position among the five fastest-growing regional economies in the country.

Among its overarching strategies is the development and protection of the capabilities of individuals and families to enjoy a prosperous life by reducing vulnerabilities and protecting their purchasing power, and increasing their income-earning ability.

It also aims at transforming the region’s production sectors and institutions to generate more and better quality jobs as well as competitive products for local and international markets. A strategy unique to Davao Region is to transform Davao Region as an international logistics hub for Southern Philippines.

Governor Malanyaon expressed her optimism about the Davao Regional Development Plan. She sees it as a strong indication of the government’s dedication to promoting sustainable economic growth, enhancing infrastructure, and providing opportunities for all Davaoeños.

Aside from unveiling the plan to the public, the launching also served as a platform for all partners to reaffirm their respective roles in the implementation of the inclusive socioeconomic development plan for the Davao Region.

“Through our collective efforts in implementing the Plan in a timely and efficient manner and by implementing the plan together, we can sustain high levels of economic growth; create more, quality, and green jobs; keep prices of commodities stable; and improve the welfare of individuals and families. By working together, we can also sustain Davao Region as an insurgency-free and tourism-ready destination,” said Gov. Malanyaon.

The plan has been meticulously formulated through the collaborative efforts of various stakeholder groups in Davao Region, including local government units, line agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, business groups, and civil society organizations, ensuring a holistic approach that addresses the unique needs and challenges of the region.

The Davao Regional Development Plan (DRDP) 2023-2028 is the second medium-term goal geared towards a long-term vision. It serves as a guidepost for all Davao Region stakeholders in pursuing the region’s sustained recovery from the disruptions caused by the pandemic, and a vehicle for accelerated transformation to a more progressive, broad-based, and strong Davao Region.
