Following his appointment as the new chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) XI entrusted by no less President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy, Jr. visited the RDC Headquarters in Davao City for his official executive briefing for his new role as he leads the whole Davao Region into goals of progress and development.

The Regional Development Council (RDC) is the highest planning and policy-making body in the region that sets the direction of socio-economic development through which various regional development efforts are coordinated. It is composed of all provincial governors, city and designated capital town mayors, Regional Directors of various national government agencies, and representatives of the accredited private sector and non-government organizations.

Acknowledging the weight of his new role, Governor Uy expressed his optimism during the said executive briefing. He admitted he was overwhelmed by the task yet remained positive he could perform well with the guidance and aid of the seasoned members of the council and the national government.

Among Governor Uy’s key responsibilities include presiding over meetings of the council, and the executive and the advisory committees, supervising the monitoring of implementation of major development programs, projects, and activities, and reviewing, revising, and approving all policy recommendations and plans from secretariat before submission to the regional council.

Confessing his surprise at the rare opportunity bestowed upon him, Governor Uy, who assumed office just six months ago as Davao Oriental’s chief executive after the untimely death of the late Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon, expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in him by President Marcos Jr. He noted that the appointment came unexpectedly and conveyed his appreciation for the recognition of his strong dedication to public service.

Governor Uy emphasized his dedication to leading the Davao Region toward a more prosperous future. He pledged to collaborate with various RDC stakeholders to ensure that development initiatives are in line with the needs and goals of the residents of the region.
