Gearing towards a concerted effort to bolster environmental conservation and protection measures, Davao Oriental Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy, Jr. took part in the Environmental Collaborative Forum alongside fellow Local Chief Executives from Region XI at Dusit Thani Residence, Davao City on September 8. The forum, hosted by the Environment Management Bureau (EMB) Region XI, gathered the participation of provincial governors, mayors, environmental sector professionals, and other public officials from across the region, all driven by a shared commitment to pioneering effective initiatives aimed at safeguarding the environment.
Governor Uy underscored the importance of such forums in keeping local officials and leaders abreast with the current developments and best practices, especially in the context of waste management, which has grown to be an increasingly pressing issue even within the confines of Davao Oriental.
Key topics covered during the forum included the most recent advancements in solid waste management, the strategies for combatting plastic pollution through the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Law RA 11898, and funding options for solid waste management projects. The Clean O2 Eco-friendly Corporation also seized the opportunity to introduce its groundbreaking eco-friendly ultra-high temperature thermal decomposition system, the O2-1000.
The O2-1000, heralded as a thermal decomposition system, employs extreme temperatures of up to 1,250℃ to neutralize waste materials and prevent the release of hazardous substances and toxic gases. The system is positioned as an alternative technology applicable to the treatment of municipal solid waste, industrial waste, and medical waste alike.
Highlighting the forum was the announcement of the Municipality of Boston in securing the P25-million worth O2-1000 Thermal Decomposition System, courtesy of the Clean O2 Corporation. Boston Mayor Rowell F. Rosit, elated at winning this coveted equipment, acknowledged the benefit of the O2-1000 to their town’s quest for a comprehensive and effective solid waste management strategy.
The Environmentalist Night at the forum also featured the “Rehiyon Onse Got Talent Competition.” Davao Oriental proudly fielded two teams representing the Municipalities of Cateel and Banaybanay, both of which made it to the top 6 finalists and vied against competitors from all corners of the region. Ultimately, the Banaybanay Artist Guild emerged victorious, clinching the top prize of P70,000.00. By Francis Jay Butulan
