In celebration of the 123rd anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service Commission (CSC), the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental led by Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy, Jr. joined the nationwide, simultaneous fun run and tree planting activity dubbed as “Plant-Run” on September 16, 2023, at Sitio Butuasan, Dahican, Mati City. The event aimed to raise funds for the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani- a program that honors government workers who died in the line of duty through the provision of one-time financial assistance plus scholarship opportunities to their family members.

Civil servants and provincial employees coming from various local government units and agencies from across the province participated in the short-track course fun run followed by the planting of mangrove seedlings in the serene and remote location of Sitio Butuasan situated in one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Pujada Bay.

Governor Uy, who eagerly participated in the event’s activities, congratulated the CSC for its relentless commitment to driving change and innovations to sustain public service excellence. He also commended the meaningful staging of the plant-run activity for its significant purpose of honoring fallen state warriors as well as pursuing the promotion of environmental conservation and encouraging an active lifestyle.

The governor also calls on his fellow civil servants to continue upholding excellence in public service. “No matter what our positions are, the reason why we are here is because of the welfare of the people that we serve. This celebration’s theme, Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes, is very timely as we are facing various challenges in our communities and in service. And therefore, we need to be able to demonstrate our capacity and ability to adapt to new situations, and to new challenges. To evolve and to innovate with the way we serve our people,” Governor Uy conveyed. By Francis Jay Butulan
