Aiding former rebels as they start anew with their lives, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the provincial government turned over livelihood assistance to the latest batch of former members of the Communist-Terrorist Group New People’s Army.

On November 30, sixty-three former rebels currently residing at the provincial government-run Happy Home received cash assistance under the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) and Livelihood Assistance Grant (LAG). 33 of these former rebels received the SLP amounting to P20,000, while 30 members of the Davao Oriental Former Rebels Association (DOFRA) received LAG amounting to P10,000 each.

Provincial Administrator Maria Gracia M. Tiago, who represented Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon during the simple turn-over ceremony at the Happy Home, conveyed the Governor’s warm welcome to the former rebels as they returned to the mainstream society. She wished them well in their new lives and expressed her hopes for success in their small business endeavors.

Also present during the turn-over ceremony were 701st Brigade Commander Brigadier General Oliver C. Maquiling, SLP EO 70 Focal Mr. Kerwin II S. Gabasa, and Happy Home Center Manager Ms. Marlyn Casibua. ᴘʜᴏᴛᴏꜱ ʙʏ ʀᴇᴍᴇʟ ᴘᴇʀᴇᴢ ᴡɪᴛʜ ʀᴇᴘᴏʀᴛꜱ ꜰʀᴏᴍ ʜᴀᴘᴘʏ ʜᴏᴍᴇ
