The outstanding conduct of the 2023-02 Maritime Inter-Agency Exercise held today at Mati Seaport initiated by the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao has earned the praises and admiration of Davao Oriental Governor Niรฑo Sotero L. Uy, Jr., noting how the exercise provides the residents of Davao Oriental with security and peace of mind, knowing that a capable naval force is ready to defend them.
โOur province is a coastal one and we have the longest coastline (in the region) so we need to protect it from any eventuality and illegal activities. For development to really take off, we need to ensure the stability of peace in our province. So, this is a very good development and welcome activity and we take pride, on behalf of the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental, in having this historic activity here, as this is the first time for such activity to be held here in the province,โ Governor Uy remarked.
The governor also reaffirmed his unwavering support for the armed forces and expressed his optimism for future advancements, anticipating the establishment of the Philippine Navy and Philippine Air Force facilities in Davao Oriental.
The Maritime Inter-Agency Exercise is conducted semi-annually and involves the participation of selected maritime agencies to enhance synergy and test their inter-operability, specifically in addressing the threats of terrorism and other illegal activities.
Highlighting the said exercise was the capability demonstration wherein a Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) consisting of 18 former members of the weakened guerilla front attempting to smuggle weapons into the waters of Davao Oriental.
