DAVAO ORIENTAL—The provincial government of Davao Oriental opts to focus now on the sustainability measures for its flagship program Nagkakaisang Lingkod-Bayan ng Davao Oriental-Barangay Outreach Caravan, an investment for peace program conceptualized by Governor Nelson Dayanghirang, after more than two years of implementation, and after serving 106 barangays already.

The crafting of the sustainability plan took place in a 2-day sustainability planning workshop held on March 6-7, 2019 at Baywalk Hotel and Restaurant and attended by development partners in their bid to be an enormous part in strengthening the program.

Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang has always been consistent in his desire to make the program a proof to the government’s existence, and its sincerity in addressing the needs of the people.

In the workshop, the partner agencies delineated the different services they rendered for the caravan, and their experiences that resulted to their anticipation in their next outreach caravan.

Indeed, time and circumstances had proven the gains of NLD-BOC.

The program became the basis of Executive Order 70 of President Rodrigo Duterte in the relentless efforts against terrorism.

Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang takes pride that the President recognized the efforts of the provincial government to bring the services even to the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).

“I am grateful that NLD has been an instrument in pursuing peace, with the increase of rebels returning to the folds of the law after understanding and witnessing how the government works for them. We have the edge because we can provide continuous services,” the Governor stressed.

NLD-BOC focal person Mr. Rotchie Ravelo was happy that the workshop was conducted.

“It was important because there is really a need for interfacing and maximize resources. The ultimate goal of the sustainability planning workshop is to come up with a 3-year sustainability plan (2019-2022). And for the first 106 barangays already served, it was giving them fish, providing their needs. Now, we will teach them how to fish, capacitate them how to provide their needs on their own,” he explained.

Ravelo furthered that the program has been consistent in its 3 areas of development, comprising human development, economic and livelihood development, and governance and security.

The result of the activity will be implemented in the 106 barangays, because the caravan will be going back in those areas to check on them while waiting for the program to resume.

Governor Nelson Dayanghirang emphasized on the first day of the activity that absolutely, he does not want the program to be stained with politics, hence, suspension of the program will be implemented until election is over.

As yet, the NLD Barangay outreach caravan further works on the prevalence of a disaster-resilient and development driven community for Davao Oriental, as an aftermath of an inclusive provincial governance. Photos by Riza M. Golez
