Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon met with the CEOs of four different companies who are hoping to offer a range of innovative solutions for the province.
The group, who were brought by Former Department of Agriculture Secretary Luis Ramon Chito Lorenzo on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at the Provincial Capitol. , presented these ‘promising’ solutions which consist of services and products poised to help improve people’s lives and usher the province to further development.
Among these solutions was the giant bamboo project by the company Rizome. The company seeks to partner with farmers in planting bamboo on a 30,000-hectare land in the province.
Russell Smith, CEO and co-founder of Rizome company, describes this particular type of bamboo specie as ‘strong like steel and tough as concrete.’ He said it has all the elements that should be a primary material and has a huge potential in the lumber industry. Bamboo can be transformed into construction timber which is used in the United States and other countries as a replacement for hardwood.
Aside from being a sustainable source of primary construction materials, bamboo also has a huge impact on climate change and mitigation against flooding and landslides.
The bamboo project, explains Mr. Lorenzo, could help the province repopulate the province’s forestry cover. He says this industry has the potential to create jobs and increase the income of people. In addition, it will become another source of revenue for the province.
Aside from bamboo, another company also explores planting, processing, and exporting agarwood, a high-value endemic tree in Mindanao.
In support to farmers and the agriculture sector, another company called BioPrime offers bio nano fertilizers. Aside from being cheaper than the conventional fertilizer, BioPrime fertilizer, specifically for rice and corn, uses no chemicals and has no oil-based component that will destroy the soil. It rejuvenates the soil while increasing the yield.
Aside from solutions for the wood industry and agriculture sector, also presented was the information database solution which hopes in establishing baseline information, such as demographics and population. This will enable the LGU to identify what the people need the most and deploy resources most efficiently. Also presented was the digitalization of healthcare medical services which will improve healthcare delivery and the efficient integration of Universal Health Care.
Governor Malanyaon warmly welcomed and considered these promising solutions that will help transform the province as she bid for its economic recovery and the improving the lives of her constituents.
She is set to talk with her team on economic recovery to review these products and services.
