In a strategic move to bolster Davao Oriental’s local economy, Governor Niño Uy recently held a meeting with H.E. Michel Parys, Belgium’s Ambassador to the Philippines, and Honorary Consul Leonilo G. Claudio. The discussions focused on exploring potential investments that could drive economic growth in the province.

The Belgian delegation expressed their enthusiasm for expanding their government’s investments in Davao Oriental, emphasizing collaboration with local stakeholders and partners. Ambassador Parys highlighted Belgium’s interest in supporting initiatives that would benefit the province’s cacao industry.

Currently, Belgian food innovation company Puratos, in partnership with Kenemmer, operates in the province, specializing in high-quality agricultural products like fermented cacao beans sourced from local farmers. Ambassador Parys revealed plans to further expand these activities, which are expected to significantly boost Davao Oriental’s agricultural sector.

Additionally, the ambassador expressed interest in Davao Oriental’s tourism potential, citing the province’s captivating destinations that could attract Belgian and other international tourists.

Governor Uy welcomed this exciting development, describing it as a major step toward strengthening the province’s economy. He expressed gratitude to the Belgian government for their commitment and interest in investing in Davao Oriental.

“Our administration is fully committed to supporting agriculture and tourism, the leading economic drivers of Davao Oriental. These prospective investments will undoubtedly create more jobs, uplift our people’s quality of life, and bring sustainable progress to our province,” Governor Uy said.
