Smiling together as one, stronger Davao Oriental.

Continuing its mission to provide genuine service in protecting and promoting the right to health of the people and instilling in them health-conscious well-being, the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental, steered by the Provincial Health Office, initiated a dental health care activity on February 24, 2023, in time for the culmination of the 19th Dental Health Month Celebration.

The dental team from the Provincial Health Office led by  Dr. Jerame S. Yuson assembled a dental army composed of dentists and dental aides from various local government units of the province and volunteers from the 701st Brigade and 7th Air Reserve Center to provide service to children and adults who were present at the Provincial Covered Court.

Accordingly, this province-wide event aims to introduce a sustainable oral health program that will focus on reducing the number of children with tooth decay and instill and innovate a useful and advantageous oral health education system for teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals.

Speaking to the crowd, Dr. Girlie Blancada from the DOH Region 11 appealed to the parents “not to use us dentists to scare the kids, but instead inform them of the benefits when we take care of our teeth and the importance of having good oral hygiene.” She also reminded the public to value their dental health because getting them treated and repaired would be relatively costly.

Services provided throughout the activity include fluoride application, atraumatic restorative treatment (ART), and tooth extraction.

Representing Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon, Provincial Administrator Maria Gracia Tiago extended the Governor’s appreciation for everyone’s assistance in carrying out the activity. She added that this activity would eventually be carried out in each municipality throughout the province once everything is set up and ready.

Also present during the event are Board Member Nenette Palmera, Chairperson on Appropriation and Member of the Committee on Health, Dr. Angelo Prado of DepEd Mati City, and representatives from Smiles Foundation, Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, DepEd Davao Oriental, and DepEd Mati City. ʙʏ ꜰʀᴀɴᴄɪꜱ ᴊᴀʏ ʙᴜᴛᴜʟᴀɴ | ᴘʜᴏᴛᴏꜱ ʙʏ ᴍᴀʀᴋ ᴏʟɪᴠᴇʀ ᴀʟᴠɪᴛᴇ
