DAVAO ORIENTAL—Pregnant women here relished on lots of freebies offered during the first-ever “Buntis Congress” spearheaded by the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center’s (DOPMC) Breastfeeding Committee.
In celebration of the 16th National Araw ng mga Buntis, more than 30 pregnant women participated in the fun-filled, yet informative activity held on Friday, March 29, at the DOPMC lobby.
Bannering the theme “Malinis at Luntiang Kapaligiran Handog ng Ina sa Sinapupunan”, free ultrasound, prenatal vitamins, and milk, are some of the freebies given during the said event.
Also, series of lectures have been given to the participants tackling healthy pregnancy, proper positioning, among others.
Dr. Sandra Yuson, Breastfeeding Committee Chair, said that they hope to make “Buntis Congress” a yearly activity pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 569.
“This event is important for us to educate the women on pregnancy-related issues and to further instill in them the importance of prenatal check-up during pregnancy to avoid maternal deaths. Next year, we are expecting more pregnant women to participate in this event,” she said.
As a way of celebrating the “beauty and joy of pregnancy,” a search for Gandang Buntis 2019 was held. Five pregnant women showcased their confidence and wit during the show.
Charmie Dy Redulla, who wowed the judges in her walk, bagged the crown for Gandang Buntis 2019 title and a free accommodation in the private rooms of DOPMC. Meanwhile, Donnezza Donaire, who emerged as first runner up with her witty healthy pregnancy practices in the question and answer portion, won her second coupon for a free ultrasound.
Aside from advocating for a healthy pregnancy, DOPMC’s Chief of Clinics Dr. Romil Oraiza, said in his welcome message that they are bracing for the celebration of the breastfeeding month in August.
