The League of Municipalities of the Philippines – Davao Oriental Chapter, composed of the mayors from the ten municipalities of the province of Davao Oriental, elected its new set of officers for the term 2022-2025 in an election held on Monday, August 15, 2022, at the Honey’s Hotel, City of Mati.
Mayor Ronie Osnan of the Municipality of Caraga was elected as the new Chapter President. He vowed to take the challenge to fulfill his responsibilities and support the Provincial Government’s administration that bid to uplift the lives of its constituents.
Following the election, Mayor Osnan and his fellow officers took their oath of office administered by Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon at the Provincial Capitol.
The Governor extended her congratulations and expressed her high hopes for the League which she said would help her in her mission to usher the province to further development, particularly on making policies for economic recovery through agriculture and food security.
“Let us help each other in addressing the poverty incidence in the province. With sound policies, we will boost agriculture, reach out to our local farmers, strategize in the production of crops and livestock, as well as boost tourism and the people’s income. These are just some of the challenges which we should face to improve our economy even in the times of crisis,” said Governor Malanyaon.

The election of officers for the LMP follows with the mandates of Section 496 of the Republic Act 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, which states that ‘there shall be an organization of all municipalities to be known as the League of Municipalities for the primary purpose of ventilating, articulating and crystallizing issues affecting municipal government administration, and securing, through proper and legal means, solutions thereto.’
Among the functions of the LMP are to formulate policies, programs and projects affecting municipalities as a whole; promote local autonomy at the municipal level; adopt measures for the promotion of the welfare of all municipalities; encourage people’s participation in local government administration in order to promote united and concerted action for the attainment of country-wide development goals; serve as a forum for crystallizing and expressing ideas, seeking the necessary assistance of the National Government, and providing the private sector avenues for cooperation in the promotion of the welfare of the municipalities; exercise such other powers and perform such other duties and functions as the league may prescribe for the welfare of the municipalities, among others.
Facilitating the election was the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Office led by the Provincial Director Orle Cabaobao. Ensuring the integrity of the election is the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) chaired by Mayor Rowell Rosit together with the LMP COMELEC members Samuel Uy and Erlinda Lim.
