The Provincial Government of Davao Oriental through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) staged one of the biggest job fairs to date in the province on May 1, 2023, Labor Day, at the Provincial Capitol, Mati City, Davao Oriental.
The TNT KA or Trabaho, Negosyo, Turismo at Kabuhayan Job Fair which drew applicants from all over the Province of Davao Oriental opened over 3,000 jobs with 32 local and overseas employers providing work opportunities in the fields of logistics, retail, manufacturing, business process outsourcing, manpower services, agriculture, and tourism. DOLE Region XI tagged the event as a “mega-job fair” and just one of the two DOLE-endorsed job fairs in the region in time for Labor Day 2023 celebration. The other one is the regional job fair held in the highly urbanized city of Davao.
According to the Davao Oriental PESO Manager Restie Aguilon, the said job fair, aimed to provide employment opportunities for Davao Oriental residents, is an intensified employment facilitation effort in line with the advocacy of Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon to increase job creation to help combat poverty incidence in the province. It also highlights tourism development as one of the priority programs to generate gainful employment in the tourism sector.
Aside from the job fair, the Department of Labor and Employment also distributed cash assistance through its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers or TUPAD Program. The program aims to provide additional temporary employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers. A total of 34 million Pesos was distributed to various Local Government Units as well as to the Provincial Government, facilitated by DOLE Assistant Regional Director Atty. Jason P. Balais.
The job fair proved to be successful, with a total of 108 applicants being hired on the spot, while the remaining candidates are just awaiting the completion of additional application procedures. The event gave job seekers a chance to network with potential companies and learn about the numerous employment options in and outside the province.
In attendance at the event, Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon extended her profound gratitude to all partner agencies and organizations, companies, and personnel that contributed to organizing the massive job fair. In order to achieve the government’s goal of reducing the incidence of poverty in the province, she pledged that more initiatives like this would be established and supported.
Governor Malanyaon stressed that collaborative efforts like this job fair and cash assistance distribution is part of the government’s efforts to provide help and employment opportunities to those who are in need, especially during these challenging times. She said the event’s success acts as a motivation to keep pushing for the province’s economic recovery and reduction in poverty. By Francis Jay Butulan | Photos by Remel Perez
