Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon vowed her commitment to helping the education sector provide learners access to quality education, considering it is one of the primary keys to fighting poverty.

During the meeting with the Provincial Local School Board (LSB) members yesterday at the Provincial Capitol, the Governor said she wants to mobilize resources to aid educators in implementing innovative solutions to help learners get the quality education they truly deserve.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted quality education and impacted students’ learning across the province and the world, she said there is a need to exert more efforts to help students make up for the compromised learning.

With the opening of face-to-face classes, Governor Malanyaon also expressed the need to prioritize vaccination. She asked for the school’s proactive interventions to encourage vaccination as she hopes the province will become “mask-free” by the end of the year 2022, which can only be possible through intensified vaccination efforts.

Aside from addressing the health concerns, Governor Malanyaon also emphasized implementing values formation as one of the subjects to be taught in all schools to instill moral standards among learners. She said this would serve as a foundation for building a sustainable society.

And to thank the mentors and further encourage them to help prepare the young generation for nation-building and create a sustainable society to live in, the LSB also discussed arrangements for the upcoming celebration of World Teachers’ Day. This particular day hopes to honor the teachers in the province who molded successes and instilled young minds with keys leading to growth and development.

The Local School Board consists of the top officials of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao Oriental Division led by the Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Reynaldo B. Mellorida represented by the Chief Education Supervisor – School Governance Operation Division (SGOD) Ernesto Cabanes along with the presence of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Education Chairman Board Member Harold A. Montes and the Provincial Local School Board Secretary and Provincial Treasurer Engr. Ma. Victoria G. Rodriguez.
