The Provincial Government is considering the implementation of the mandatory membership of the women Capitol employees in the Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP) Career Women as part of the province’s efforts to create more female role models of moral values and good character in the community.

During the courtesy call of the Executive Committee Council Officers from the GSP Davao Oriental Council at the Capitol on Wednesday, September 7, Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon agreed to this idea. She said that being a member of this highly esteemed organization is helpful as this is an opportunity for them to be trained on character development and the ideals of service.

The Governor said she eagerly supports the GSP’s programs as she believes in its massive part in inculcating values through character and moral trainings, especially in young girls.

The Governor said that the GSP trainings truly shape women in bringing about significant and positive change. She added that the values inculcated in GSP trainings also come in handy in tourism as the organization advocates for the spirit of volunteerism, politeness, discipline, respect, integrity, and many other values required in the tourism and hospitability industry.

The GSP Committee shared with the Governor some of its best-known programs anchored on the integration of values formation that will help the province create its brand of quality service.

Moreover, the Governor also underscored the GSP’s trainings as a respite for students in their academics while providing them with a new set of skills that would become useful in their future.

“We tend to forget that it all starts within our character – there is no next step or progress if we don’t have discipline and values. We need to teach this to the next generation for them to be productive citizens,” said Governor Malanyaon.

While the Council was not able to provide direct trainings in the past year because of the pandemic, the GSP is now ready to conduct their trainings and activities this year amidst the onset of the face-to-face classes.

Aside from these benefits, insurance is another advantage of becoming a member. By Mark Oliver Alvite
