Recognizing teaching as the noblest profession and an instrument for societal transformation, Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon acknowledged the sacrifices of teachers and commit to supporting educational development at all levels. Displaying a firm pledge to strengthen the partnership of the provincial government and these modern heroes in the selfless pursuit of bringing quality education to the people of Davao Oriental, especially the youth.
During the World Teachers’ Day province-wide celebration at Baganga National
High School on October 10, Governor Malanyaon stressed the incomparable
dedication of teachers who shares the continuing noble mission of extending a true
service with a heart – compassionate, optimistic, resilient, and aspirational.
She also reiterated the important roles of teachers in the continuing
rebuilding efforts of the government post-pandemic.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all teachers as the frontliners in promoting respect and creating spaces for learning, enlightenment, and development for all which is in complement to our long-term pursuit of inclusive development, economic security, and environmental sustainability,” the Governor said.
Governor Malanyaon moreover recognized the selfless and gallant spirits of the teachers in order to bridge the gap in education, especially in rural areas.
“I am aware of the sacrifices of teachers putting their selves at high risk only to deliver quality transformative education even in hinterlands. (Some) would walk for hours or even a day just to reach the school and approach the children who are passionate to learn,” Governor Malanyaon added.
Concluded in a grandiose fashion, the World Teachers’ Day celebration of the Schools Division of Davao Oriental was attended by an estimated 6,000 teachers. Also present in the affair are Vice Governor Niño Sotero Uy, 1st District Representative Nelson L. Dayanghirang, 2ND District Representative Cheeno Almario represented by Joel Mayo Almario, the Local Chief Executives, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members, partners of peace and development in the uniformed personnel, and officials and leaders in the Department of Education (DepEd) XI led by the Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo.
During the event, a total of about P7M worth of cash, giveaways, and raffle prizes were handed out to the teachers in attendance. Various performers were invited to provide fun and entertainment. Adding zest to the affair is the conduct of Teachers Got Talent where teachers displayed varied talents in performing arts.
Exemplary educators were also recognized for their invaluable contributions including those in long-time years of service.
This year’s celebration of the province-wide World Teachers Day revolved around
the theme, “The transformation of education begins with teachers.” together
with the national theme, “Gurong Pilipino: Dangal ng Sambayanang
Pilipino”.
Meanwhile, Mayor Ian Larcia of the Municipality of Banaybanay officially accepted the hosting honor of next year’s celebration of World Teachers’ Day. By Mark Oliver Alvite
