“The best we can do is give teachers [especially the volunteers with full qualifications teaching already for years] what they deserve for teaching the students and mentoring them for years. They should fill the plantilla positions they have been longing and working hard for,” Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon expressed during the Local School Board (LSB) Meeting on Friday, May 26, at the Provincial Capitol.

She emphasized the importance of recognizing and rewarding teachers for their years of service as she strongly believes that they deserve to fill the plantilla positions they have been striving for.

During the meeting, the Governor expressed how saddened she is as she is willing and has been wanting to find ways to absorb these teachers.  “Majority of these volunteers are those who are already Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) passers and already in the DepEd’s Davao Oriental’s Registry of Qualified Applicants (RQA). These individuals have been tirelessly following up for job positions, demonstrating their strong desire to work and willingness to persevere despite the challenges they face,” she said.

Governor Malanyaon is highly motivated to address this issue, stating that these teachers are the key to unlocking their students’ potential and helping them achieve their dreams. Their contributions are vital to the development of Davao Oriental.

The Governor acknowledged that many talented and skilled teachers choose to pursue opportunities abroad due to their frustration with waiting for better prospects within the country. While the government wishes them luck, it recognizes the loss of valuable educators.

Governor Malanyaon emphasized the importance of dedicating time and attention to understanding the needs and challenges faced by educators in remote areas. She stressed the need for these teachers to be recognized, promoted, and adequately compensated for their demanding work.

The Superintendent of the DepEd – Davao Oriental Schools Division, Dr. Josephine L. Fadul, expressed similar sentiments and shared that they are actively addressing the concern. They are striving to achieve complete filling of the Teacher 1 positions, aiming for a 100% fulfillment rate.

The meeting also covered a range of topics, including the importance of Sports Development in providing students with valuable skills and opportunities and steering them away from negative influences. Additionally, the meeting addressed pressing school building needs such as repairs and internet provision. These efforts prioritize providing a safe and conducive environment for both teachers and learners.

The Provincial Government is also committed to supporting members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) and Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) in the division through discussions of potential aids and interventions.

Among those present at the LSB meeting were Chairperson Board Member Harold Montes of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Education, Provincial Treasurer Engr. Ma. Victoria G. Rodriguez, and the LSB Secretariat Head Restie Aguilon, along with other representatives from the DepEd Schools Division of Davao Oriental.  ʙʏ ᴍᴀʀᴋ ᴏʟɪᴠᴇʀ ᴀʟᴠɪᴛᴇ
