In the wake of a recent calamity that has ravaged Davao Oriental, a glimmer of hope emerged as Valenzuela City LGU, led by Mayor Weslie Gatchalian and the office of Senator Win Gatchalian, extended a much-needed helping hand.
Today, February 17, 2024, amidst the trials faced by the province, the Davao Oriental Provincial Government gratefully received 5,600 sacks of rice donated by the Senator and Valenzuela City LGU in a poignant ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol Covered Court. The donation, totaling a generous P7 million in value, signifies solidarity and compassion from Luzon to Mindanao.
Traveling the miles from Luzon to Mindanao, Vice Mayor Lorena Natividad-Borja and her dedicated team personally delivered the substantial aid, emphasizing the heartfelt connection between Valenzuela City and Davao Oriental. “Walang malayo sa pagbibigay ng tulong at pagpapaabot ng pagdamay at malasakit. Sa kalamidad, lahat tayo ay magkababayan,” Vice Mayor Borja articulated, echoing the unity in times of crisis.
In response, Governor Niño Uy, represented by Board Member Stephen Paul “Popong” Uy, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of Davao Oriental. “Thank you for being a blessing to us. Sana dumami pa ang mga taong kagaya ninyo,” BM Uy conveyed, underscoring the significance of solidarity during trying times.
The ceremonial turnover witnessed a gathering of local leaders, including City Councilor Samuel Rodriguez, representing Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat, and Board Members Nenette Palmera and Michelle Malanyaon-Centeno, alongside Mr. Louie Malanyaon and representatives from various LGUs across Davao Oriental.
