The Province of Davao Oriental has donated P1 million financial aid to the Province of Davao del Sur which was devastated by a series of earthquakes late last year.
No less than Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang handed over the check to Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas in a simple ceremony held at the lobby of Davao del Sur Provincial Capitol on Tuesday, January 21.
Governor Cagas, who warmly welcomed the group from Davao Oriental, said he is overwhelmed by the outpour of support to his province. He expressed his thanks to Governor Dayanghirang and to the people of Davao Oriental for the benevolence they have shown to his constituents. He said the donation will greatly help in the recovery and rehabilitation of the earthquake-affected communities in his province.
While the province is yet to decide where to utilize the funds, Governor Cagas said he is considering utilizing the funds for the resettlement cost of some constituents that need to be relocated to safer grounds.
“The province of Davao del Sur is now meticulously planning on how to effectively use the amounts received in order for our kababayans who are severely affected by the quakes attain their pride and dignity again,” says a statement from Davao del Sur.
Governor Nelson Dayanghirang said that his province is more than happy to send aid to a neighboring province in need. “This is the perfect time to ignite our bayanihan spirit. We are neighbors and we should help each other in times of need,” said Governor Dayanghirang.
Earlier that day, the Governors of Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro also handed over financial aid to Davao del Sur. Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy turned over P 1 million for the Province of Davao del Sur and P 2.9 million for Digos City and eight other affected municipalities. Governor Edwin Jubahib of Davao del Norte, on the other hand, donated P1 million. Both Governors was accompanied by 10th Infantry Division Commander Major General Jose Faustino, Jr.
“The people of Davao del Sur led by the father of our province deeply appreciates and is forever thankful for his associates who are always available even during miserable times,” the statement from Davao del Sur further reads.
The donation from Davao Oriental was sourced out from the Provincial Government’s Calamity Fund, said Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Assistant Department Head Francis Jason Bendulo, who accompanied Governor Dayanghirang during his visit. By PIO/Photos by Eden Jhan Licayan
