DAVAO ORIENTAL (Developing story) Heavy rainfall overnight has triggered floods and landslides in some areas of the province.

Based on reports from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), landslides have occurred in some areas of Tarragona and Caraga towns while most parts of Manay were affected by flooding as river channels have swelled.

Heavy equipment from the Provincial Engineering Office and Department of Public Works and Highways have already been deployed to clear the main roads blocked by landslides. Troops from the Philippine Army and rescue groups are also assisting the rescue and response operation in the affected areas.

The Municipality of Caraga has already suspended classes up to high school level effective today January 22, 2019 only, said the PDRRMC.

Food packs and supplies are already on standby to augment available goods in the municipalities affected. The goods will be delivered within the day said Emergency Operation Center Manager Francis Jason Bendulo as per order of Governor Nelson Dayanghirang.

The PDRRMC led by its Chairman Governor Dayanghirang is continuously monitoring the situation on the ground and coordinating with all Local Chief Executives and MDRRMC for the smooth flow of interventions. Photos Courtesy of Manay Tourism
