DAVAO ORIENTAL – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council continues to monitor situation on the ground in all areas of Davao Oriental.

Although the heavy rainfall warning has been lifted early this morning, the PDRRMC and their local counterparts are continuously monitoring situation of their respective areas of responsibility.

Troops from the Philippine Army’s 67th IB assists evacuees in Cateel.

Based on reports submitted to the PDRRMC, a total of 38 families were evacuated to designated evacuation centers last night, all in Cateel town. These evacuees are composed of 9 families from Barangay Abejod, 1 family in Barangay Mainit, 20 families in Baranagy Alegria, and 8 families in Sitio Tamoag and Calarian in Barangay San Miguel.

All displaced families, who have already received food packs and supplies from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, are not yet given the clearance to go home although water level at nearby Aragon Dam has started to subside.

As of 4:50 this morning, water level of the dam dropped to 19 meters from 19.7 meters last night. Even though water level has stabilized overnight, the MDRRMC of Cateel is continuously monitoring the dam since the water level is still at “alert level”.

Although the rain warning has been lifted, fishing boats and small sea vessels are advised not to venture out into sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

24/7 Monitoring at the Emergency Operation Center

Meanwhile, 701st Brigade Commander Col. Manuel Sequitin reported that the Compostela Valley-Cateel road, which was impassable last night due to landslide, is now passable for all vehicles.

He added that military troops and their police counterparts are on standby to assist response, especially in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.

Governor Nelson Dayanghirang said that “although we are beginning to see encouraging signs, we should still take necessary precautions and measures, especially on areas vulnerable to floods and landslide”.

As of the moment, the province Incident Command System continues closely monitor all areas in Davao Oriental to ensure proper coordination of interventions.
