The fight against illegal drugs in Davao Oriental has been intensified following the successful 4th Quarter Meeting of the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) on November 22, 2024, held at the Capitol Grand Conference Room. Spearheaded by Governor Niño Uy, the meeting focused on advancing initiatives to ensure safety and peace across the province.
According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), 180 barangays in Davao Oriental have been declared and maintained as drug-free. However, three barangays are still undergoing rigorous clearing operations aimed at achieving a fully drug-cleared status.
Despite the rising national cases of illegal drug activity, Davao Oriental’s PADAC remains 100% highly functional due to effective coordination and innovative strategies to mitigate the effects of drugs on communities.
New Strategies and Initiatives
During the meeting, PADAC members exchanged ideas on more effective methods to strengthen the campaign. Proposed measures included installing anti-drug posters and signages, implementing a reward system, and increasing public awareness of the harmful effects of drugs.
Governor Uy emphasized the importance of collaboration with community leaders, organizations, and schools. He highlighted that through community forums, outreach activities, and awareness campaigns, residents could gain valuable knowledge about the devastating impact of illegal drugs on individuals, families, and society.
“This is not just a government initiative but a collective movement of the entire community. Everyone’s active participation is vital for us to succeed,” Governor Uy stated.

In his message, Governor Uy praised PADAC members for their unwavering dedication and support. He stressed the need to strengthen rehabilitation, reformation, and after-care programs to help individuals recovering from drug use reintegrate into society and lead normal lives.
