In a continuing effort to address the problem of illegal drugs in Davao Oriental, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in close collaboration with the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental headed by Governor Niño Uy, through the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), initiated the 3-batch barangay rollout training on Strengthening Institutional Capacities of Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (SICAP-BADAC) starting today, April 3, at Honey’s Hotel, Mati City. Barangay officials from the Municipalities of Boston, Caraga, and Lupon joined the first batch of the training today.

The SICAP-BADAC rollout training aims to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to effectively perform the roles as BADAC members on their respective barangays. The barangay officials and BADAC members attending the training were specifically oriented on the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council, BADAC Functionality Audit, Local Anti-Drug Plan of Action, and Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation and Reintegration Program.

Governor Uy, addressing the participants, expressed his great desire to make Davao Oriental drug-free noting that this kind of training is highly important to capacitate local leaders to help eradicate the proliferation of illegal drugs.

“It is our goal to be a drug-free province. Mao kani nga rollout training importante kaayo aron matabangan ang atong local leaders in order to counter illegal drugs. Dili nato kini pwede i-take for granted,” he said putting weight on the training’s significance.

The Governor also added “dili nato pwede undangon ang atong laban batok sa ilegal nga droga kay kani dako og epekto sa overall well-being sa atong komunidad, labi na sa atong mga kabataan” underscoring the programs and actions that his administration is doing to combat this social menace.

Early this year, Governor Niño Uy has already signed Executive Order (EO) No. 1 Series of 2004 which highlights the goal of promoting and institutionalizing drug-free workplace policies to safeguard the well-being of all provincial and local government officials and employees, and the general public in totality.
