DAVAO ORIENTAL – Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang led on Monday, June 27, the groundbreaking ceremony of the soon-to-rise Medical Waste Treatment Facility and the Disaster Risk Reduction Management in Health Center (Evacuation and DRRM-H Building) at the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center (DOPMC).

The Medical Waste Treatment facility, with a project cost of P40 million which will soon be ready for a Pyroclave Waste Management System, is intended for the efficient and safe processing and disposal of bio-medical waste.

Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Reden Bersaldo said it is specifically intended to properly dispose infectious, pathological, and pharmaceutical wastes, as well as biomedical materials. He said these medical wastes will be processed in an intense heat and decomposed to be turned into harmless material which can even be used as fertilizers.

Meanwhile, the P10 million DRRM-H Center or Evacuation Center consisting of a 10.9m x 19.5m Evacuation Building with Ambulance Parking as well as the 15m x 18m Evacuation Court was designed as a multi-purpose building to serve as a facility for evacuation in times of disasters and emergencies.

Before stepping down as the province’s local chief executive, Governor Dayanghirang underscored the significance of his two last infrastructure projects for the health sector. He, however, noted that more healthcare upgrades will come at the DOPMC as the incoming administration shares a huge heart for the healthcare sector.

“Nothing is more important in healthcare services than building a strong interpersonal relationship internally — which leads to the creation of ideas from each other all for the sake of the welfare of the people in the community. And I believe that these facilities will be vital in strengthening cooperation and helping hands since these projects will not only benefit one but all of Davao Oriental’s constituents,” Governor Dayanghirang said.

Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Reden Bersaldo said that this is a big leap in terms of providing solutions to their waste problems likewise in providing comfort, safety and further knowledge and skills for all its employees as they continue to strive to tend to the people’s healthcare needs especially to the less fortunate.
