DAVAO ORIENTAL—Two villages in the City of Mati, namely Barangays Dahican and Tamisan, have formally received a newly constructed two-storey Barangay Hall from the Provincial Government during a series of turnover ceremonies on December 18.
Being the first two-storey Multipurpose Building cum Command Center constructed under the administration of Governor Nelson Dayanghirang, the state-of-the-art structures boast spacious session hall, pantry with comfort room, as well as a terrace with landscaping at the top floor.
Meanwhile, the ground floor consists of three office spaces with comfort rooms, storage room, reception area with lounges, and landscaping. The building is also equipped with complete office furniture.
Costing P6 million each, the project’s funding was sourced out through loan proceeds from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).
The two barangays which are recipients to the Provincial Government’s two-storey design building are considered densely populated villages, thus, prompting the provision of a larger space to better cater their constituents, said Governor Dayanghirang, who led the turn-over ceremonies.
As designed by the Provincial Engineers Office (PEO), the structure is not only intended to withstand strong earthquake and typhoon but will also serve as a tourist come-on. Barangay Dahican and Tamisan, known for its long stretch of white sand coastlines and pristine waters are being frequented by locals and tourists.
“With this new Barangay Hall, we are expecting a lot of tourists to drop by to ask more about the tourist destinations in our area,” said Dahican Village Chief Nestor Escasinas.
Constructed within a 3,500 square meter lot donated by the Provincial Government, their new Barangay Hall is located along the Provincial road, near the welcome arch of Dahican-Lawigan road.
“In behalf of the Barangay Council and of all the residents of Dahican, I am extending my huge gratitude to the Provincial Government for allocating funds for this building. Thank you for your outpouring support for our barangay. I promise to take good care of these projects while I am in service,” he added, also citing the soon-to-be constructed gymnasium at the barangay.
Tamisan Punong Barangay Samuel Rodriguez, who personally embellished the barangay with attractive decors, also thanked the governor for the project. “My gratitude is overflowing for receiving this kind of Barangay Hall,” he said, as he enumerated other projects that the province is set to give them, like the Covered Court.
City of Mati Mayor Michelle Rabat, who attended the ceremony in Barangay Tamisan, likewise thanked the Governor for all the support he has extended to the barangays in the City. She also mentioned some of the projects that the City Government will give to Barangay Tamisan such as the Barangay’s new Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. Text and Photos by Riza M.
