Davao Oriental, Philippinesโ€”Despite unfavorable weather, today, July 8, 2024, at the Provincial Capitol, City of Mati, Governor Niรฑo Uy led the Provincial Government of Davao Orientalโ€™s observance of the 36th National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2024 through Executive Order No. 29, s. 2017, organized by the Davao Oriental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The theme for this year, “Bantayog ng Katagan at Ang Pagbubuklod sa Layuning Kahandaan,” emphasizes the significance of preparedness and resilience-building initiatives to lessen the impact of disasters on lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on preparedness, response, and rehabilitation.

Adding to the grandeur of the occasion, Governor Uy and various government officials led the motorcade procession which moved its way through the city streets of Mati followed by the water salute at the Provincial Capitol Flagpole area symbolizing a gesture of honor and respect for the resilience and preparedness of the province in the face of potential disasters.

Governor Uy expressed in his message how important all entities and individuals are to building the provinceโ€™s resilience in the face of adversity.

โ€œThis yearโ€™s theme resonates deeply with our province strong collaborations, pagtinabangay, panaghiusa ug pagpangandam, which are all very important and integral part sa atoang pagpaningkamot to make our province resilient,โ€ he said.

The governor also highlighted how challenging 2024 is in its few months due to the trough of a low-pressure area and shearline in Davao Oriental, but it didnโ€™t stop his dedication to respond and take action to meet the needs of the people in Davao Oriental.

โ€œPagsugod palang nato sa tuig 2024, we have already experienced a series of weather disturbances from Kabayan, the shearline, the trough of LPA, and other forms of calamities. Karon na bulan, usa ka importante na bulan para natong tanan. I would like to commend the participation of all of us, ang importante ang pakigtambayayong, pagtinabangay and learn from each other from the experiences that we have to make our efforts more responsive and more comprehensive,โ€ he said.

As the 36th National Disaster Resilience Month unfolds, the Provincial Government, along with the people of Davao Oriental, stands united and ready to face whatever challenges may come the way.
