A total of P2.2 million in cash assistance was officially delivered today to former rebels (FRs) and tipsters during a simple ceremony at the Provincial Capitol’s Covered Court.
701st Kagitingan Brigade Commander BGen Oliver C. Maquiling has lauded the initiative of Governor Nelson Dayanghirang, saying the recent distribution of financial assistance was “worthy of recognition and emulation.”
“This is a manifestation that the provincial government is serious in ending the insurgency problem by looking after your (former rebels’) welfare,” Gen. Maquiling said.
Vice Governor Nino Sotero Uy who represented Governor Dayanghirang in the ceremony has urged other rebels “to peacefully lay down their arms and return to the mainstream society to contribute to peace and progress of the province.”
Sixteen former rebels received P100,000 each while 13 tipsters each received P50,000.
The FRs are also already enrolled in the national government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program which makes them eligible for more government incentives and assistance.
In their testimonies, the former rebels thanked the provincial government and the partner agencies for working hand in hand in serving various initiatives to help sustain their needs as they reintegrate back to the mainstream society.
They also encouraged those who are still active in the insurgency to return to the folds of law as fighting against the government will only deprive them of a good life they could cherish.
