Staged to aid in boosting sports tourism in Davao Oriental, the inaugural Tri-DavOr Triathlon Competition witnessed the gathering of numerous triathletes coming from various parts of Mindanao on June 25, 2023, at Mati City. The sporting extravaganza marked a significant milestone as a component of the Gov Cora Cup in time for the celebration of the 56th Araw ng Davao Oriental. The competition was strategically aligned with the Davao Oriental Beautiful Campaign, an initiative by the Provincial Government spearheaded by Governor Corazon N. Malanaon to foster the province’s beauty through sports.

Dubbed as the ultimate triathlon experience in Davao Oriental, the event featured three challenging courses- a 1.5-kilometer Swim Course at the renowned Dahican Beach, a 40-kilometer Bike Course encompassing the scenic Bobon Loop, and a 10-kilometer Run Course stretching from Dahican to the Provincial Capitol. These courses showed off the province’s stunning natural beauty while testing the participants’ determination and pushing them to their physical and mental limitations.

Vice Governor Niño Sotero Uy, addressing the athletes during the Awarding Ceremony, extended his sincere gratitude to everyone who participated, recognizing their essential contribution to the historic occasion. He also urged them to take full advantage of the opportunity to explore other tourist destinations in Davao Oriental while they are in the province.

“We are deeply honored for everyone’s participation in this significant and historic first-ever triathlon competition in Davao Oriental. You have been part of and contributed to our tourism campaign of Davao Oriental Beautiful,” Uy expressed.

The Tri DavOr Competition exhibited the Davao Oriental Provincial Government’s dedication to sports development and promotion and positioning the province as an attractive getaway for both sports aficionados and tourists. With the event’s success, the province is anticipating an upsurge in sports tourism, opening doors for economic development and displaying the diverse natural marvels that Davao Oriental has to offer.
