Davao Oriental emerged as a culinary powerhouse during the recently concluded Buwan ng Kalutong Filipino as part of the Filipino Food Month Celebration held at Abreeza Ayala Malls in Davao City from April 19 to 21, 2024. Spearheaded by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Agriculture (DA), the event showcased the rich gastronomic heritage of the region, with Davao Oriental stealing the spotlight with its delectable offerings.
Exhibitors from various provinces across the Davao Region converged at Abreeza Ayala Malls, transforming the venue into a vibrant tapestry of flavors. From sumptuous delicacies to unique artisanal products, guests were treated to a feast for the senses, indulging in the diverse culinary delights on display.
On the first day, local artisans treated mall-goers and guests with an array of snacks and treats during the meryenda bonanza. The festivities continued on the second day with a lavish lunch feast, extending the celebration to all within the vicinity of Abreeza’s bustling activity center.
The Provincial Tourism Office of Davao Oriental, in partnership with the Davao Oriental Institute of Technology (DOIT), played a significant role in ensuring the success of the event. This collaboration underscored the province’s commitment to promoting its rich cultural heritage and culinary prowess on a regional stage.
Davao Oriental’s dedication to excellence in culinary arts and craftsmanship was recognized with the “Highest Sales” award. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and its Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) supported Davao Oriental’s entrepreneurial spirit and culinary ingenuity, resulting in an impressive sales figure totaling approximately P200,000.
Governor Niño Uy, leading the provincial government of Davao Oriental, praised the province’s triumph in the culinary arena. Under his visionary leadership, Davao Oriental has launched a robust campaign to bolster its tourism sector, with gastronomy emerging as a cornerstone of the province’s promotional efforts.
