Blessed with world-class surfing sites with amazing waves and stunning coastlines that are still unexplored, the beautiful province of Davao Oriental is now being eyed as another surfing destination in the Philippines.
Earlier today, Presidential son William Vinny Araneta Marcos, who joined the officials of the United Philippine Surfing Association (UPSA) – the national sports body for surfing in the country, paid a courtesy call on Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon at the Provincial Tourism Complex.
The youngest Marcos and the group of surfers visited some of the province’s surfing sites on the east coast over the weekend and the City of Mati Monday morning. An adventurer and a surfing enthusiast, Marcos expressed his awe at the beguiling beauty of the province.
UPSA President Dr. Jose Raul Canlas told Governor Malanyaon about Davao Oriental’s potential, adding that the province is a dream destination for many surfers owing to its crystal-clear waters, pristine white-sand beaches, and perfect waves. Having the region’s longest coastline, mostly facing the Pacific Ocean, Davao Oriental boasts waves offering surfers an excellent ride.
In addition, Dr. Canlas also expressed UPSA’s interest in bringing surfing activities to the province, which Governor Malanyaon warmly welcomed and mentioned her interest in launching a grand surfing event within the year.
Governor Malanyaon has been keen on promoting the province’s tourism sector, considering it is an effective way to boost the local economy, as it can create additional local job opportunities and generate revenue for local businesses.
Also present during this morning’s courtesy call were the members of the Mati Watersports Association and the Surfers Club, Technical Consultant Ms. Cynthia Rodriguez, Provincial Administrator Ms. Ma. Gracia Tiago, and Provincial Treasurer Engr. Ma. Victoria Rodriguez.
Giving the visitors a glimpse of the province, Governor Malanyaon gave the Presidential son and the surfers’ group a grand tour at the Subangan Provincial Museum that showcases the province’s cultural and natural heritage. ᴋʟᴅ-ᴘɪᴏ | ᴘʜᴏᴛᴏꜱ ʙʏ ᴍᴀʀᴋ ᴏʟɪᴠᴇʀ ᴀʟᴠɪᴛᴇ
