Gov Calls on to Mayors to Replicate NLD Service Caravan

DAVAO ORIENTAL—Governor Nelson Dayanghirang is calling on to the Local Chief Executives here to replicate and adopt the concept of the Provincial Government-led Nagkakaisang Lingkod-Bayan ng Davao Oriental Barangay Outreach Caravan (NLD-BOC) in their respective municipalities.

In the recent conduct of NLD-BOC, Governor Dayanghirang said that the Local Chief Executives should implement their own program like NLD-BOC to ensure that government presence is continuously felt in the communities.

NLD-BOC is the flagship program of Davao Oriental which brings government services at the people’s doorstep.

“Of course, the mayors currently have their own programs. I am calling on to those who are not yet implementing service caravan in their area to really start replicating this so that the people in all barangays can always feel the presence of the government. There are 183 barangays that we need to serve, and the provincial government alone cannot cater all of these within a year. So that is why we need them to replicate this so that government services are not being disrupted,” said Governor Dayanghirang in an interview.

Out of 183 barangays, a total of 111 have been so far catered by the program following the successful NLD Caravan on March 26 to 28 in Barangays Luzon, Tiblawan, Oregon, and Magdug in Governor Generoso town, and Barangay San Ignacio in Many town. More than 15,000 residents benefitted in the said caravan.

“In the midst of our battle against insurgency and poverty, I am grateful that the mayors have committed their full support. As always, they are committed to achieving one goal and that is long and lasting peace,” he added.

Governor Nelson Dayanghirang also said his thanks to the “unwavering support of the many national agencies as well as the Provincial Government Offices in the conduct of NLD-BOC.”

Since its pilot implementation in 2016, the numbers of participating agencies and offices have grown to more than 70. Recently, the National Police Commission and the Philippine Coastguard have joined the Lingkod-Bayan team. The two agencies conducted information drive in addition to the Caravan’s existing advocacy lectures.

“We still have 72 more barangays left before the second stage of our project implementation and I am very grateful to all the partner agencies for converging efforts with the provincial government. I expect all these government agencies to still be with us on the next NLD-BOC,” Governor Dayanghirang said.

The regular partner agencies rendered various services such as health, dental, eye checkups, legal and consultation, animal and pet vaccination, among many others. Goods were also distributed such as food packs, school bags, PWD crutches, agricultural materials, and fishing gears. Photos by Eden Jhan Licayan
