As a relentless push for lasting peace in Mindanao, the Executive Committee of the Peace and Order Council of Davao Oriental approved a resolution supporting the extension of Martial Law in Mindanao, in their meeting held just very recently at the Honey’s Hotel in the City of Mati.
Presided by the Council Chair Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang and attended by members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Davao Oriental chapter, the Council crafted and approved the said resolution, as a strong support to the national government’s unceasing quest for lasting peace.
In earlier interviews, Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang said that he is supporting martial law as it is designed to address security threats and problems in Mindanao.
“For us here in the province, we don’t see any problem and we don’t feel like martial law is being implemented because we are the very first province in Davao region declared as conflict-manageable,” he explained.
Dayanghirang reiterated his profound gratitude to the soldiers and police force for making such accomplishment for the province possible.
Mayor Nestor Uy, League of Municipalities of the Philippines Chapter President, disclosed also that the league is supporting Martial Law because it’s for our own good.
“In the first place, martial law should not have been implemented if this will do us harm,” he furthered.
Gov. Dayanghirang stressed that his administration is always supportive of any peace and development measures, as the two are inseparable.
“My predecessor, former Governor and now Congresswoman Corazon Malanyaon have always been consistent that you cannot have development without peace, and there is no peace without development,” he added.
In fact, the centerpiece program of Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang, the Nagkakaisang Lingkod Bayan ng Davao Oriental – Barangay Outreach Caravan, has become an investment for peace, as through the program many rebels were enticed to surrender as they see now the sincere efforts of the government in bringing the services closer to the people.
