Saddened by the twin bombing in Jolo, Sulu which cost precious lives and horrified churchgoers and residents, Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang strongly calls for vigilance to his people in the province to counter whatever security threats that might occur.
“We condemn such terrorist act. Lives are irreplaceable and it happened in a place of worship. We join the mourning of the victims,” he said.
During a press conference on Monday, January 28, called for the AFP-PNP Press Corps, Davao Oriental Provincial Director PSSUPT Marcial Mariano Magistrado emphasized that they are now intensifying their security measures so that the misfortune in Jolo, Sulu will not happen again, more so in the province of Davao Oriental, and that is really the ultimate goal.
“Our security measures include putting all our local police stations on full alert, maximum deployment of personnel in convergence areas, like churches, schools, and others, while intensifying also our intelligence networking and implementation of check points,” he stressed.
For the Philippine Army, 701st Brigade Commander Col. Manuel Sequitin reported that they are continuing with their heightened alert status, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines has already made a statement of condemnation to the incident.
“We do not want the same fate to happen here in Davao Oriental because as we can see, our province has taken off to greater heights, particularly in developing our local economy,” he said.
In the press conference, both the DOPPO and the Philippine Army lauded the leadership of Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang for a coming out with expeditious instructions in times of need.
“As Dabawensyos, we have the responsibility to protect our respective areas. Let us be vigilant always, and report to authorities any suspicious movements or suspicious persons in our areas. This can be deterrent factors in pursuing evil plans. Let us help each other. We are all Filipinos,” he added.
Vice-Governor Nino Sotero Uy also share the national and provincial leaderships’ sentiments that strongly condemns the terroristic act, especially that the government is really bent on pursuing peace.
“I can’t comprehend that this is happening, this act of the perpetrators that would just like to ruin our pursuit for peace. May the full force of the law be imposed on them,” he explained.
Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang has been consistent with his directive to the police force and to the soldiers to exhaust all means to sustain the peace and order that the province is starting to achieve.
