From guns to kitchen utensils, former rebels who have ditched the life of violence have learned the art of meat processing to find more opportunities to earn more income.

Last week, members of the Davao Oriental Former Rebels Association (DOFRA) enjoyed a one-day skills training on meat processing. At the training, they learned how to make end-products such as siomai, imbotido, skinless longanisa, and chicken ham which they can readily sell.

The training held at the Happy Home, a halfway house for former rebels, was hosted by the Department of Agriculture Region XI in partnership with the Provincial Veterinarian’s Office.

The DOFRA, consisting of about 30 members, expressed gratitude to the government for its unceasing assistance. Currently, the DOFRA is a recognized People’s Organization that has now started to engage in enterprising activities to help its members earn income as they begin their lives anew.

Following the training, the participants received their certificate of completion awarded by Brigadier General Leopoldo Imbang, Jr. (Ret.), the Action Officer of the Provincial ELCAC (Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict).

Brig. Gen. Imbang (Ret.) conveyed to the DOFRA members Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon’s warm congratulations and well-wishes for them to succeed and become truly part of the province’s sustainable development. PIO | Photos Courtesy of Ms. Marlyn Casibua-Happy Home Center Manager
