DAVAO ORIENTAL—A total of 12,866 residents in the six barangays in San Isidro town benefited in the three-day conduct of the Nagkakaisang Lingkod-Bayan ng Davao Oriental Barangay Outreach Caravan (NLD-BOC).
With services ranging from social services, dental and medical services, and economic and livelihood services, various agencies and offices converged in delivering much-needed services in the villages of La Union, Talisay, Maputi, Bitaogan, Cambaleon, and Baon on September 18 to 19.
To provide sustainable livelihood to beneficiaries, the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO), through its Sustainable Agriculture Village Enterprise (SAVE) Program, distributed OPV corn seeds, vegetable seeds, and mungbeans. The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) gave out coconut seedlings, agricultural grade salt, and cattle while the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) dispersed tilapia fingerlings and fishing gears.
The Emergency Employment Program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) provided temporary employment to the beneficiaries.
Aside from the livelihood packages given to the residents, advocacy lectures were also held. PAGRO Head at the same time NLD-BOC Focal Person Rotchie Ravelo said these lectures will help sustain the livelihood projects provided to the beneficiaries.
“The provincial government wants to ensure that the livelihood projects given to you will last long,” Ravelo told the residents, quoting the famous proverb that says: “You give a poor man a fish and you feed him for a day. You teach him to fish and you give him an occupation that will feed him for a lifetime.”
Various goods were also turned-over during the caravan.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), together with DSWD, distributed school bags, food packs, and sports equipment.
In support to education and the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, the Office of Special Assistant to the President Bong Go distributed basket balls, notebooks, t-shirts, and ballers to the youth.
The new addition to the myriad of goods is school books and laboratory apparatus donated by PBA Party-list.
PhilHealth Office issued Membership Data Form as well as Identification cards to its members. The Commission also issued ID cards to registered voters.
While the said barangays have been declared cleared from insurgency and illegal drugs, Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang challenged the residents here to maintain peace and order in their respective areas. He said that the residents should remain vigilant due to its neighboring municipality’s vulnerability to terroristic threats.
Governor Dayanghriang said that based on intelligence reports, as tackled during the Regional Peace and Order Council Meeting, foreign terrorists might take refuge in Balut Island in General Santos City which is near Governor Generoso, the adjacent municipality of San Isidro.
“That is why you have to keep a watchful eye on everyone in your community, especially if you see someone suspicious,” Governor Dayanghirang told the villagers.
