DAVAO ORIENTAL – The P296.5 million Bulk Water Supply System poised to address the lack of water supply in the City of Mati is set to start within the next few days as Governor Nelson Dayanghirang signed earlier today the contract to the long-awaited high-impact big-ticket project.
The Governor signed the contract together with the executives of the lone bidder Mactan Rock Industries Inc., headed by its President and CEO, Mr. Lito Maderazo.
Considered one of Governor Dayanghirang’s biggest legacy projects, the Bulk Water Supply System aims to address and sustain the city’s water necessity by collecting both surface and groundwater then distribute it to the different barangays while also making it an economic enterprise of the province.
The project is set to benefit eleven barangays in the City of Mati which include Barangays Mayo, Don Salvador Lopez, Don Enrique Lopez, Don Martin Marundan, Dahican, Bobon, Tamisan, Lawigan, Matiao, Central and Sainz.
The Bulk Water Supply System here will be constructed along the Mayo River, which is among the biggest river systems in Davao Oriental.
Governor Dayanghirang, who initiated the project, says this project was conceptualized a few years back after he had seen the people’s plight due to the lack of sufficient water supply in the city.
He added the big-ticket water project is also a significant boost to investments in the province as it will attract even more tourism-related investments in the city. Both agriculture and tourism are among the strongest sectors in Davao Oriental.
Based on the design, the project will comprise three components: the characterization and assessment of available water resources, surface water development, and ground water development. The balance distribution is vital for the development of the supply system to avoid exploitation of the environment in the pursuit of providing sufficient water supply to the City of Mati and ensuring the sustainability of the project as a whole.
Mactan Rock Industries Inc. President and CEO Mr. Lito Maderazo assured the provincial government that the company would deliver the project as soon as possible and within the target time frame of 360 days.
Also present during the contract signing were the personalities from the Provincial Engineer’s Office headed by Provincial Engineer Ruel Dumadag and members of the Bids and Awards Committee headed by Mr. Freddie Bendulo. PIO
