The Provincial Capitol will soon become a Free WiFi zone, providing free internet access to the public within the Capitol premises.

Through the partnership of the provincial government and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the free WiFi is set to be installed and activated within the Governor’s first 100 days.

Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon said this is a worthy investment as the provincial government is gearing towards digitalizing all of its transactions.

Aside from establishing the Provincial Capitol as a Free WiFi zone, the provincial government and the DICT have also agreed to partner on the proposed plan to provide basic WiFi connectivity in all of the province’s landmark tourism sites.

Engr. Albert Gabriel of the DICT Provincial Office committed to providing the technical plan to bring the internet service provider’s bandwidth down to the tourism sites. These major tourist sites include Aliwagwag Falls in Cateel, the Mount Hamiguitan Range and Wildlife Sanctuary Museum and Eco-Park in San Isidiro, the Pusan Point in Caraga, and Cape San Agustin in Governor Generoso.

Implemented under the DICT’s “Free WiFi for All – Free Public Internet Access Program,” the provision of free WiFi aims to increase the provision of free internet access in public places nationwide, including Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas.

TOWARDS DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION:

Gearing towards digital transformation, the provincial government and the DICT are also set to partner to implement programs to improve connectivity and advance information technology in the province.

These include implementing digital signatures in the offices to fast-track government transactions, thus improving speed and efficiency.

The DICT is also providing ICT literacy training and competency development programs to harness the competitiveness of the current and future workforce and marginalized and special needs sector. Moreover, it provides interventions and services such as Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Orientation, Social Media Marketing Lecture, E-Government Services, and VAX Cert issuance, among many others.
