DAVAO ORIENTAL – After a few years of waiting, the dream of the 443 government employees to own a home they can finally call their own is gradually becoming a reality.

On April 13, the Provincial Government led the launching and groundbreaking of the provincial government’s NLD Housing project for government employees in Sitio Magay, Don Martin Marundan in the City of Mati.

Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang, who initiated the province’s housing program in 2018 in partnership with the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), aims to provide homeless citizens in the province, especially the informal settlers, affordable and comfortable homes.

The NLD Housing project covers 11 hectares of land area where the 443 housing units will be constructed. Each housing unit has an estimated total floor area of more or less 46 square meters.

Each housing unit has a package cost of P580,000 with two comfort rooms and two bedrooms.

For its implementation, the SHFC will cover the finances for the site development and the construction of houses for the two classified homeowners groups. One group is the NLD National Homeowner’s Association Inc., with 243 members coming from different national agencies, while the other group is the NLD Oriental Homeowner’s Association Inc., with 200 members who are employees of the provincial government.

The president of both associations, Dr. Edgar Francisquete (NLD National) and Ms. Lyrna Palma – Padohinog (NLD Oriental), are grateful for all the provincial government’s support that led them to their dream of owning a home. They say this could never be made possible without the help and cooperation of everybody.

Alejandro Malintad, an employee of the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center (DOPMC) under the General Services Office, says he is thankful for this project as the project will allow him to give his family a comfortable home. “It will definitely be an ideal place to raise my four kids,” he said.

During the launch and groundbreaking, Governor Dayanghirang said he is optimistic about the opportunity of this housing project for the people. “We are not only building homes, but we are building a community,” said the Governor.

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Regional Director Atty. Miguel Palma Gil, through his representative Judge Pia Palma Gil-Torrejos, assured that he will do whatever he can to provide further assistance for the homeowners given that there is active compliance with the requirements, needed documents, and other responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Governor Dayanghirang has also led the turn-over of the newly completed Multi-Purpose Building (Daycare Center) under the Mandaya Muslim Bisaya Homeowners Association Incorporated (MMBHOAI) Phase 2 project and the turn-over of the newly completed Multi-Purpose Building (Covered Court) MMBHOAI Phase 3.

Aside from the NLD Housing Project for government employees, a housing project under the program has already been started for the Mandaya Muslim Bisaya Homeowners Association Incorporated (MMBHOAI), wherein 800 beneficiaries have availed. By Mark Oliver Alvite |Photos by Eden Jhan Licayan
