In the continuous effort to address the evolving healthcare needs of its constituents, the Provincial Health Board convened for its quarterly meeting on March 12, 2024, in the City of Mati. Stakeholders representing various agencies and local government units congregated to strategize on ways to bolster community health outcomes.
Governor Niño Uy, leading the proceedings, underscored the critical importance of accessible and high-quality healthcare for all residents. “We know for a fact that we still have many concerns that have to be addressed especially the health sector which needs continuous collaboration so that everything will be felt by our constituents,” remarked Governor Uy, reaffirming the administration’s unwavering dedication to equitable healthcare provision throughout the province.
A pivotal moment in the meeting was the adoption of a resolution outlining the Terms of Partnership for 2024 with the Department of Health. This resolution earmarks a substantial grant of P66 million from the Department of Health for the province, slated for allocation towards health facility enhancement, human resource development, logistics, training, and capacity-building initiatives.
Dr. Azin John Libanan, Assistant Department Head of the Provincial Government, explained the national directive guiding this grant distribution, emphasizing its role in bolstering provincial healthcare systems.
The resolution is poised for endorsement to the Sangguning Panlalawigan for formal adoption, empowering the Governor to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the DOH.
Governor Uy hailed this development as an opportunity to fortify primary healthcare services, particularly at the grassroots level, in his address to the board.
A substantial portion of the meeting was dedicated to reviewing the accomplishments of key programs implemented in 2023, with a focus on combatting prevalent health challenges such as communicable diseases, maternal and child health issues, and non-communicable diseases.
Furthermore, Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Reden Bersaldo elaborated on the upcoming Health Summit scheduled on May 8-10, 2024. This pivotal event aims to leverage a whole-of-government approach to elevate healthcare standards in Davao Oriental, with active involvement from diverse stakeholders and partners.
Collaboration emerged as a central theme throughout the meeting, with stakeholders from both public and private sectors affirming their commitment to fortify the province’s healthcare framework. Notable pledges of support came from local healthcare providers, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders, including Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat.
The meeting culminated with a renewed sense of purpose and unity among attendees, as they reasserted their collective resolve to advance the health and well-being of every resident. Governor Niño Uy expressed optimism regarding the transformative impact of the initiatives discussed, stating, “Through collaborative effort and efficient resource utilization, we can forge a healthier and more resilient community for generations to come.” By PIO | Photos by Jefferson Masisay
