DAVAO ORIENTAL –Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang applauded the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center’s (DOPMC) workforce for their long years of dedicated service to the province’s constituents.
Governor Dayanghirang, who graced DOPMC’s 47th Founding Anniversary on July 20, Friday, congratulated the medical center’s heads and staff for their wholehearted commitment to serve the province’s less privileged constituents despite the ups and downs throughout the years.
“The hospital is here to provide services to the patients who are mostly poor and cannot afford services of private hospitals. Let us never forget that this institution exists to provide healthcare for everyone,” he reminded the hospital employees.

During the celebration, Governor Dayanghirang divulged that after the successful Supreme Court ruling on the “just share” of Local Government Units on the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) filed by Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas, Davao Oriental is entitled to receive P2.4 billion from the national government.
He said that if this ruling will be implemented, the province will have something to look forward to which would definitely help fund the province’s development programs especially on health.
The Governor also reported that the province will be adopting and implementing at the DOPMC the “Pagkalinga sa Bayan” program initiated by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio. “The Pagkalinga sa Bayan is a one-stop shop where all medical assistance offered by the national and provincial and city governments will be housed inside one building. It is designed for the public’s convenience and accessibility.”
Through convergence, the program will pool all agencies with social services programs that include the Philippine Charity and Sweepstakes Office, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth), and the Office of the President.
“I am asking the hospital management to provide a space to house all these agencies in one office together in order to cater those patients seeking financial assistance, burial assistance, and pharmaceutical assistance,” he said.
Meanwhile, as the Provincial Government offices are laying out their budget in the next few weeks their budget for next year, Governor Dayanghirang urged the hospital heads to prepare a budget wherein urgent needs are given utmost priority.
The Governor also directed the Provincial Health Office to facilitate the reorganization of the Provincial Health Office to update its organizational structure. He said that positions that no longer apply at present must be changed in order to adapt to the present needs. He said the submission of the proposals on the reorganization of the structure must be fast–tracked so that it will be included in the budget for next year. “Nevertheless, I will assure you that no employee will be terminated or demoted,” he said, stressing that this is merely to update the structure to better improve the services of the departments.
The DOPMC workforce also lauded Governor Dayanghirang for his support to the hospital since the start of his administration.
To date, 43 employees at the DOPMC alone have been promoted to a regular or higher position. He also facilitated the increase of the salaries of Job Order nurses and medical staff.
“We would like to thank our dear Governor for all your support. Thank you for the salary increase and the items and all the privileges that you give,” said Chief of Hospital Dr. Reden Bersaldo.
With a colorful theme party, the celebration of the DOPMC’s 47th founding anniversary became even more vibrant and exciting as the Governor Dayanghirang gave a total of P100,000 as cash prize for the different competitions at the celebration.
