Davao Oriental, known for its relentless commitment to improving public health, emerged as a standout performer at the prestigious 2024 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony. The province and its local government units (LGUs) earned multiple accolades, underscoring their tireless efforts to boost nutrition and wellness for their communities.

Top Honors for Davao Oriental
In a remarkable feat, Davao Oriental was crowned the 2024 Pag-asa Awardee, securing the highest OPT Plus coverage in the region for 2023. This award is a testament to the province’s unyielding dedication to ensuring that essential nutrition services reach every corner of its jurisdiction, providing a foundation for healthier lives.

Mati City’s Triple Triumph
The City of Mati proudly took home three coveted awards:

  • Pag-Asa Awardee (City Level) for dramatically reducing stunting rates among children.
  • Kaugmaon Awardee for excellence in implementing far-reaching nutrition programs.
  • Aguila Awardee for introducing innovative approaches to promote healthy eating and food security.

Success Across the Province
Other municipalities in Davao Oriental shone as well, with Banaybanay, Boston, and Baganga receiving Pag-Asa Awards for their remarkable strides in reducing stunting and expanding OPT Plus coverage.

Davao Oriental’s nutrition success story is not just about programs but the people behind them. The province garnered nominations for the Green Banner Seal of Compliance and recognized the extraordinary leadership of Dr. Reden V. Bersaldo, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, and Mr. Wenifredo M. Go, Jr., Program Coordinator. Their hands-on leadership and innovative strategies have been pivotal in driving change.
