Recognizing the immense role that planners play in development, the provincial government organized the province’s planning officers through the League of Local Planning and Development Coordinators of the Philippines, Incorporated, Davao Oriental.
Earlier today, February 10, 2023, the new league officers took their oath of office administered by Vice Governor Niño Sotero Uy, who represented Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon.
Vice Governor Uy conveyed the Governor’s warm congratulations to the newly elected officers, noting that they are “key instruments in providing clear direction of the administration.”
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Mr. Orle Cabaobao expressed his enthusiasm to strengthen partnerships with the Local Government Units through the planning officers. He also took the opportunity to stress the importance of developing the Comprehensive Development Plan (CPD) as part of the non-negotiable requirement for the Seal of Good Local Government (SGLG). Forming part of the CDP is the Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA), which is vital since Governor Malanyaon’s administration has clarified that the province’s economic drivers and focus are on agriculture and tourism, which can be heavily affected by disasters.
Provincial Administrator Ms. Maria Gracia Tiago vowed the Governor’s commitment to supporting the planning officers who work in tandem with the Local Chief Executives.
Newly elected President Joseph Porgatorio, City Planning Development Coordinator of the City of Mati, vowed his and the league’s commitment to making Davao Oriental great. “We will try our best to be an inspiration with our respective LGUs, and we will continue moving the best that we can in the interest of making Davao Oriental a great province,” he said.
The League of Planners of Davao Oriental was first organized in 2018. However, the league never took off due to the demise of its former League President. Just recently, the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, Mr. Freddie Bendulo, who is now the National Executive Vice-President of the League of Local Planning and Development Coordinators of the Philippines, Incorporated, National Chapter revived the league with the support of Governor Malanyaon.
