The teachers of the Department of Education (DepEd) City of Mati Division demonstrated their enduring enthusiasm and high energy on October 9 at the celebration of World Teachers’ Day despite the relentless rain that turned the event into a waterlogged affair. More than 2,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel from both public and private schools across Mati gathered at Baywalk Park for a wet and wild retro-style party that had everyone in high spirits throughout the celebration.

Leaders from the city and province expressed appreciation and deep gratitude during the celebration, which honored the teachers in Mati City for their year-round dedication to honing young minds and being instrumental in building patriotic and child-friendly communities. Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy, Jr. and Mati City Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat, along with other local leaders and DepEd heads and representatives, lauded the vital roles of teachers in society and in helping to create an educated and productive society.

The teachers were treated to exciting prizes and cash incentives, including the P2.4 million courtesy of the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental, as they relished the moment to unwind, enjoy, and socialize on a day full of surprises and excitement. The incessant rain did nothing to dampen their excitement as they savored good food, drinks, arty performances, comic acts, and music in the company of fellow educators.
