Davao Oriental successfully hosted the 2nd Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Summit on October 17 at the Capitol Covered Court, welcoming nearly 200 DRRM officers from across Region XI.
The annual summit, organized by the Regional Alliance of DRRM Officers XI, aimed to enhance disaster preparedness by providing updates and strengthening knowledge on disaster risk reduction, management, response, and rehabilitation. It also served as a valuable opportunity for regional officials to connect and reinforce their ties as emergency responders.
Davao Oriental Governor Niño Uy, who delivered an inspirational message during the event, warmly welcomed the summit delegates. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of collaboration to protect communities from the ever-present threats posed by disasters.
“This gathering is crucial in fostering cooperation to safeguard our communities against the constant dangers of disasters,” Governor Uy said. He also reaffirmed his commitment to disaster risk reduction efforts, stating, “As the governor of this province and the regional chairperson of the Regional Development Council, I am committed to supporting our disaster risk reduction initiatives. My administration will continue to prioritize investments in infrastructure, early warning systems, and community training programs.”
